Your commitment to Hire Houston Youth creates a meaningful and lasting impact for our youth and our future workforce.
Youth earn and learn and develop their job skills, social capital, and networks. Hire Houston Youth connects your company to the youth talent pipeline for free. By joining the program, Mayor Turner simply asks you to commit to employing a youth for at least $9.00 an hour for a minimum of eight (8) weeks of work. Companies and youth can individually negotiate the terms of employment once the connection has been made.
Employers joining Hire Houston Youth have three pathways to fulfill their employment needs:
OPTION 1
Participate in Hire Houston Youth Job and Resource Fairs.
The City of Houston and the McDonald’s Owners/Operators of Greater Houston will host various Job and Resource Fairs to help connect youth ages 16-24 with area employers. Youth do not need to pre-register or pre-qualify to participate. All youth between the ages of 16-24 are welcomed to attend.
To be eligible to participate in the Job and Resource Fairs, employers must:
- Be able to make an offer of employment to youth at the event.
- Provide youth with the location, point of contact, and contact information for employment offer.
- Employers may participate if they can do 1 and 2 but need to perform a background check for clearance before a final offer is made.
OPTION 2
Post Your Jobs Online
If this is your first time participating, please create an account. If you are returning, login with your username and password. Post your jobs on the portal. Youth will apply. Review and screen your job applicants.* Make an offer. Pay the youth directly. The application process is free and simple. Hire youth for your current or summer needs. The program is now year-round.
*All applicants are required to take mandatory job readiness training either online or in person. Companies can work with HHY staff to coordinate candidate interviews. Employers may also forego interviews and receive pre-screened interns. Just let us know your needs. HHY is here to help.
OPTION 3
Are You a Non-Profit Seeking a Subsidized Youth?
Please apply if you are interested in receiving a subsidized Hire Houston Youth intern. Just complete the nonprofit employer application. We will contact and screen your non-profit’s application. Once approved, you will be notified of the number of subsidized positions received. At this point, create your employer account and password, and post your subsidized job opportunities. Qualified youth will have an opportunity to apply for your subsidized positions.
